The story so far...

Tergemo uncovered 2005/06

The case for the defence…

Tergemo have added goalkeeper Craig Hinds to their ranks who has shown a real desire to become the number one. His size is a positive factor for the shot-stopper as there is not a lot to choose between Morris and Hinds in terms of technique and handling. Commitment is going to be the important factor for both keepers.

Another Tergemo addition is Opi Oladapo who has shown his quality in pre-season with a MOM performance against EC1. He is versatile and very strong but can lack discipline. He joins some real quality at the back with central pairing Lane and Saricicek, the classic big, strong lung-busting centre back and the ball-playing, tough-tackling back-line leader looking good in pre-season. An interesting battle for the full-back position is hotting up with vice-captain Danny Geelan feeling the pressure from player of the year Ulliott and mid-season signing Siracusa all vying for those two full-back positions. Add to this melting pot the versatile Carlos Rodenas and you have a strong looking defence for this important year for Tergemo.

The engine room…

Tergemo’s midfield quintet was arguably their strongest feature last season but with the addition of a new striker meaning that the midfield will surely drop to four, and the return to fitness of Steven Compton, means that six will somehow have to go into four. The versatility of players such as the Comptons, Dolan and Walker will allow Tergemo to play many of their best players, but this will be one to watch. Clarke looks set to start his first full season with Tergemo playing supremely well in pre-season and looking sharp and then there is the commanding Appiah who simply oozes quality.

The headline grabbers…

17-goal hit man Denis Osborne looks an assured bet to beat his tally last season with the kind of quality that he has behind him in midfield. Osborne hit his best form when linked up alongside another striker last season and this could be the case again with Oladapo lining up to be a big-hit in 2006. This partnership if committed could fire Tergemo into Div.2!

history2.jpg

Tergemo FC was originally founded by Andy Dolan, Danny Geelan and Rusell Morris back in 1999 when the club competed in the Tottenham Powerleague ubder the name of Lynx United. These three founder members first played for another team called Mad For It where they found great success winning the first division title.

The core of the club includes long-term members; Andrew Compton, John McGahern and Carlos Rodenas. Each of these chaps you could bet your life on and will always be there to support you on and off the field. Andrew gives great strength and no-nonsense football mixed with flair and skill, Johnny M is a tough tackler with good pace who always gives you 100% in his perfromane as well as having an eye for goaland Carlos is a midfielder with a great engine who will work hard for the team, scoring goals and providing them with equal skill and assurance. Shortly after the creation of this team another member was added and still remains as arguably our greatest signing of all time... Steven Compton. The younger brother of Andrew, Steven added skill, determination and quality to the team that has made him one of the central figures within the club. It was at this time, during the emergence of a new footballing force that Tergemo (or Lynx United at the time) gained their most loyal supporter of all time, Claire Meyer. She has been there from day one to enjoy ALL of the highs and lows of the team and has never wained in her support for the Tergemo players. Other supporters include Jane Meyer, Abby Ulliott, Bernadette Shevlin, Leila Shembry and, of course, Mr. 'D'.

Some success was enjoyed under the banner of Lynx United and cup success in the 'Valentine's Day Trophy' was followed up by a league championship. The team competed in the rough and tough Tottenham league for two years and in that time added another member to the club; Lee Stevens. Tergemo knew that it was time to leave after a mass brawl and weekly confrontations made the experience less then enjoyable and so we joined Barnet Powerleague.

At Barnet the Tergemo players couldn't help but take advantage of the wider goals and smaller penalty areas and this was first noticed by the eagle-eyed Geelan who always looks for the bottom corner as the team penalty taker. Tergemo found great success at Barnet despite the standard of football being at a higher level. This is a testament to the players of Tergemo, they always manage to raise their game when it is required. The banner of Lynx United was later modified to 3 Lions as the members felt that this best represented the them as a hard-working, fiercely competitive unit.

Starting from the bottom, Tergemo recorded a division two championship in their first season but narrowly missed out on automatic promotion in the following season, loosing against thier 'bogey team'...Dream Team who would haunt the Tergemo players for seasons to come. The players came together though the following season and won the first division in style and got promotion to the premier division. The season that followed was to be Tergemo's (playing uder the 3 Lions banner) finest season of all as they went unbeaten throughout the WHOLE season beating the likes of Shotgun, Mad, Dream Team to name but a few to lift the top prize in footbal (over the Tuesday night powerleague in Barnet anyway!).

Tergemo could not repeat the achievements of this season and finsihed as runners-up the following season and even though we stayed competitive and were always astrong league team, success did not follow. Other members joined the club in an attempt to regain the success of the past and these included Aktar Hussain, Nick Cedras and a couple of cameos from Sean Galvin but even their allegance to the cause could not bring success. An addition that did prove fruitful however, was the appointment of Edward Ulliott, a skillful player who prooved himself reliable as a Tergemo player. A lack of dicipline from some of our original members, however, in not fulfilling thier roles as reliable squad members, caused by rifts within the club resulted in the dismamberment of the team.

Like all of the best teams though, Tergemo bounced back under their current banner which stands for three lions in latin (TER meaning three and GEMO meaning lions, roughly). The team, now playing in black, as opposed to their original yellow and black stripes, competed in the Barnet Sunday Powerleague and each of the core members were back: Geelan, Dolan, Morris, Rodenas, McGahern, Comp and Compton and once again in their first season Tergemo lifted silverware! A cameo performance from Graham Sims in goal also enabled Tergemo to win a tightly contested match in this league campaign.

The poor organisation of powerleague was just too much for us to take (especially for those of use who could remeber the good old days of when powerleague was run well and not just for profit) and so Tergemo became an eleven-a-side outfit who affiliated to the FA and joined the Camden Sunday League.

Tergemo have been joined by some fine individuals in the form of old school chums Darius Lane and Tuan Hong, past 'kick-about mates' Eric Saricicek, Max Danicic as well as the members that they have added such as Denis Osborne, Eugene Appiah, Ike Obiui, Martin Oganware, Danny Walker, Mark Browett and Danny Eatock. There is also a support network in the shape of Phil (the geezer) O'Dwyer, Barry Holahan, John O'Dwyer and Lee Charlton. This fine squad of players aim to take the Camden League by storm and find success in this new venture. With the mixture of the core members and new allegances there is no doubt that Tergemo FC will rise again!!

A summary of Tergemo's history

Mad For it won the Division Two trophy in Nov 1999

We formed a team around April 2000

Our Valentines Cup triumph was Feb 2001

We left Tottenham around June 2001

We won Div 2 at Barnet end of 2001

We won Div 1 spring 2002

PREMIERSHIP WINNERS JULY 2002!!!

We had our "break" from April 2003 until April 2004!!!

We got to a semi final of a cup in October 2003 (when we lost on PENS and John broke his leg! ...GERALD!!!)

We won the 7th division June 2004!

In the penultimate match of our 5-a-side career, S.Compton broke Dolan's "11 goals a game record" with 13 against the hapless Lamont Legends! However, without the goal-scoring exploits of Andy Dolan, the team threw away any chance of league success before joining the Camden Sunday league. AWFUL!!!

Top Ten Memorable Matches
The PowerLeague Era
2000-2004

  • 3-2 Win Vs Sure Thing @ Tottenham
Only the third ever match for Tergemo, back in the year 2000. Not necessarily a great match, but in the 18 months played at Tottenham Power League, this was the only defeat suffered by the impressive Sure Thing! Robert Doran swept home the winner in his only ever appearance for the club!
  • 8-8 Draw Vs Sure Thing @ Tottenham
This was another clash of the Titans, as the two dominant teams from Tuesday night football at Tottenham played out a dramatic draw. After drawing 5-5 earlier in the season, this was a Division One decider. A Geelan goal with 2 minutes to go looked to win the division, but an instant reply shared the spoils. Dolan was through on goal with only the keeper to beat when the referee inexplicably blew his whistle for full time! Tergemo finished runners up in Division One unbeaten that season (7 wins and 3 draws) behind the also unbeaten Sure Thing (8 wins and 2 draws). Tergemo would again be denied next season, as Sure Thing won the Premier League and Tergemo again collected a Runners Up trophy.
  • 3-0 Win Vs Winchester @ Tottenham
This was a massive grudge match, and a huge test of character for Tergemo. This was a re-arranged match after the first game had been abandoned. S.Compton had been maliciously upended in the original match, and after landing awkwardly, had to be taken to Hospital as a precaution. The Winchester line up was much changed from the original game, as they turned up for a battle rather than a football match. But with brave performances all over the pitch, Tergemo were too good and too strong for their aggressive opposition. A great sense of justice and satisfaction happened when the perpetrator of the original foul on S.Compton was sent off for retaliating to a hard S.Compton tackle. A rare 5-a-side clean sheet was the icing on the cake!
  • 5-5 Draw Vs Grafters @ Barnet
This was a match that gave the Tergemo players massive confidence that great things could be achieved at Barnet Powerleague. After being destroyed 3-13 in the first encounter with the experienced Grafters, Tergemo put in a brilliant high-tempo performance, which would then become the blue print of Tergemo’s style. The respect earned from Tergemo’s older opponents after bouncing back from the original mauling was even better than actually claiming a point against the run-away league winners of Division One.
  • 6-7 Loss Vs Dream Team @ Barnet
A low point in the history of Tergemo. Needing only a point in the final game of the season to seal promotion to the Premiership as runners up of Division One, Tergemo threw it away in the closing moments. Rodenas had his best moment, scoring the first three goals to put the Lions 3-0 up as he claimed his hat trick. But Dream Team, having beat Tergemo already that season, showed their characteristic fighting spirit, as the score reached 6-4 to Tergemo with less than 10 minutes remaining. Two deflected goals made the score 6-6, still enough for The Lions promotion, but an awful Geelan backpass was pounced upon by the opposition, and Dream Team went ahead for the first time in the match. The final whistle sounded and Tergemo had thrown away a season’s work in just 5 minutes.
  • 7-6 Win Vs Y2K Shotgun @ Barnet
After winning promotion to the Premiership by Clinching the Division One title, Tergemo joined a strong division, with none better than Y2K Shotgun who had won the title for the last two seasons. Both teams went into this match having won all their opening matches! The match was played at a frenetic pace throughout, but the Lions were able to edge out their older rivals at the death, in what proved to be the best win of the Premiership winning campaign…
  • 7-7 Draw Vs Y2K Shotgun @ Barnet
The return match was played on Geelan’s 21st birthday, and was heralded as "the best match I have seen at Barnet" from the Barnet Powerleague manager! Another match that was played at an unbelievable pace throughout, this was truly a great game to be involved in. Another 7-6 win looked on the cards until a last gasp equalizer from Y2K shared the spoils. This match kept Tergemo unbeaten, and kept them on course for the Premiership crown in their first season in the top flight.
  • 10-10 Draw Vs M.A.D @ Barnet
The saying "a game of two halves" was invented for this match! Tergemo needed to avoid defeat to guarantee the Premiership trophy from the clutches of double defending champions Y2K Shotgun, but put in an awful first half performance! This was Geelan’s worst game for the club, as he was caught out by the dangerous M.A.D attacker on numerous occasions. Half time score line… 2-8! But an inspired move to put S.Compton on the opposition attacker led to an amazing fight back as Tergemo closed in on the Premiership crown… Dolan powered in the goals to win the second half 8-2! Tergemo had stayed undefeated all season, 11 wins and 3 draws, and became PREMIERSHIP CHAMPIONS IN JULY 2002!!! Just 2 weeks later Tergemo played M.A.D in the new season, winning comfortably 9-4, and Geelan doing a job on the attacker that had got the better of him in this game!
  • 7-9 Loss Vs Dream Team @ Barnet
The saying "a game of two halves" was invented for this match… déjà vu for the Tergemo team!! This time it was the Lions on the wrong end of an amazing fight back, but the opposition were all too familiar… The first 23 minutes of this match was arguably the best football Tergemo had played, especially considering the quality of the opposition, as Dream Team were simply blown away as Tergemo went 7-0 up! But a consolation goal at the end of the half was to prove the teams undoing… the Compton brothers had argued over the nature of the goal, and from that moment on the normally fearsome brothers both retreated into their shell, and were not to be seen for the rest of the match (performance wise!). With Dream Team getting two quick goals after the re-start to pull it back to 3-7, plus ill-timed injuries to Rodenas and McGahern – Dolan, Geelan and Morris were effectively playing on their own! Dream team sensed a miracle, and despite being 0-7 down, ended up running out comfortable winners as they beat a dejected and tired Tergemo 8-0 in the second half. This match was to be the last time Tergemo were seen as a really competitive force, as the following season Tergemo pulled out of the league for a whole year….
  • 9-3 Win Vs NWC @ Barnet
This was the match that reignited the fire in the belly for the whole Tergemo squad! After a year absence, Tergemo returned with a comfortable win in their first league game but were undone 7-10 by a very competitive NWC side in the next game. An emphasis on defence followed, which led to three consecutive half time clean sheets. Tergemo were ready to take on NWC in a head-to-head that would decide which of the two promotion certainties would win the division. After a hesitant start, going 0-2 down, Tergemo put in the type of performance that was winning Championships two years previously! A superb Dolan hat trick meant Tergemo were 3-2 up at half time. A second half performance of power and control from Tergemo took the game away from their frustrated opposition, who were too humbled to even put their foot in during the closing moments! After winning their first 6 matches, NWC only won one game in their next seven after this lesson in football!! Tergemo were crowned Division 7 CHAMPIONS in their return season!
